Top tips for Christmas
Ten top tips to avoid a Christmas debt hangover - 2011 campaign
Citizens Advice is once again working in partnership with Barclaycard to help people avoid falling into debt over Christmas. For the 5th year in a row we are producing a pocket-sized leaflet giving our 10 top tips to help people make informed decisions when budgeting and choosing credit to help with the costs of Christmas.
To date over two million leaflets have been distributed to the public across the UK. The leaflets are distributed through our bureaux network and our financial capability forums and their members.
If you would like to receive copies of the leaflets please email Kirstin Playell.
Getting the message across in the South West
Cornwall and Devon Financial Capability Forum took part in our Top tips for Christmas project. Members carried out a range of activities to distribute the pocket sized top tips leaflet - especially targeting people on low incomes. Leaflets were distributed through debt advice drop-ins and specific public events such as the ‘Fab Over 50’ promotional event for residents of East Cornwall. They were also made available to Barclays customers through local bank counter staff.
Their work included an interview with BBC Spotlight, a local programme covering the South West. This helped get across the key messages from the Top tips leaflets through an engaging TV slot. Forum members also met families at a free Christmas community event at the Monkey Sanctuary!
