Course outline
The dismissal of workers either for misconduct or for business reasons for is a common problem for employers. Getting this process wrong can lead to compensation claims for unfair dismissal and discrimination.
The statutory dismissals process has also implemented substantial financial penalties for employers who get the dismissal process wrong.
This course aims to give you a detailed knowledge of the law relating to the dismissal of employees and the steps that an employer must take to avoid acting unlawfully.
This course will deal with:
- how to conduct dismissal proceedings
- termination of contracts – notice – constructive dismissals
- dismissing for misconduct and gross misconduct
- dismissal when an employee is sick
- management of redundancy programmes
- discrimination and dismissal
- compensation for unlawful dismissal
Course objectives
By the end of this course you will be able to:
- advise colleagues on the law of unfair dismissal
- identify mistakes in handling dismissal proceedings
- plan a redundancy programme which reduces the risk of unlawful dismissal
- explain what compensation might have to be paid for unlawful dismissals
