Benefits overview

Course outline

This course gives a basic overview of the benefits system for those new to the subject or whose role requires some understanding of the benefits available.

Learning objectives

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • recognise which benefits may be claimed in which circumstances
  • explain the principles of means-testing
  • identify ways in which benefit decisions can be challenged
  • differentiate between means-tested and on means-tested benefits
  • describe the claims procedure
