The Citizens Advice service helps people on all levels. Individual problems are resolved through face-to-face advice, online information, or over the telephone. In 2003/04 Citizens Advice Bureaux dealt with over 5.6 million individual problems ranging from debt to employment, to housing to benefit claims. In addition, we had 1.6 million visits to our website www.adviceguide.org.uk, which provides online advice. We also campaign locally and nationally for improvements to services and the law. We use the evidence we collect from helping our clients, to make a difference for people who may never even come to a CAB, or know how we can help. We identify solutions and communicate our evidence for change, to policy makers in Government and the wider public and private sector throughout England and Wales. Every year we publish influential reports, respond to consultation papers, give evidence to Select Committees and the Welsh Assembly and work in partnership with other organisations to campaign for change. | In 2003/04 we dealt with 5,605,000 new problems – 5,134,000 in England, 299,000 in Wales and 172,000 in Northern Ireland
A visit to a Citizens Advice Bureau for one person could lead to a change in policy or law that will affect the lives of many more. |
