Retired or nearing retirement? Don’t miss out
Last year’s take-up figures showed that as many as 1.6 million pensioners were missing out on an average of £34 per week in pension credit. At a time of increasing living costs, it’s more important than ever that people claim the financial help they’re entitled to.
One of the reasons people don’t claim is that they don’t know what help is available. That’s why Citizens Advice has teamed up with Sun Life Direct to produce a leaflet aimed at people already retired or approaching retirement which outlines the different benefits that people can claim.
Covering a range of situations, including if you choose to retire or carry on working, if you’re sick or disabled or on a low income, there are also sections on help with fuel bills and help when someone dies. The leaflet quotes Sun Life Direct’s latest Cost of Dying report which shows that the average cost of a funeral in 2011 was just over £3,000.
You can find more information about your options on our self-help website Adviceguide – adviceguide.org.uk or visit your local CAB. The leaflet also lists other useful websites and organisations that you can go to for further information or help.
