Find a tradesman you can trust
With more stormy and cold weather predicted for the UK, TrustMark, the government-endorsed quality mark for tradesmen, is urging homeowners to be aware of rogue traders offering to do property repair work.
Scams and rogue traders cause misery and distress to thousands of people each year. These scams cost millions of pounds and often those who are most vulnerable and least able to afford it are the ones who are targeted. Our recent scams survey asked people to pick which of ten common scams most concerned them. There were over 5,000 responses and 32 per cent of these cited building work as a problem.
So if you open your door to someone saying your roof, gutters or downpipes need fixing and offering to do the work for an immediate cash payment – take care. Even if the work is necessary, you may never see the builder again once you’ve handed over your hard-earned cash. The advice from TrustMark and Citizens Advice is to only use reputable and honest companies.
To help you find local, quality tradesmen TrustMark’s website has an easy to use UK wide postcode search facility, which provides details of more than 20,000 licenced trades and has the largest database of accredited tradesmen in the country.
TrustMark is an independent not-for-profit scheme supported by Government, industry and consumer protection groups, including Citizens Advice and the Trading Standards Institute.
