Money advice tutors

The money advice tutors are part of our Specialist Support team, who provide specialist second-tier debt advice and have a wealth of knowledge on the subject. Most of the tutors have experience within a Citizens Advice Bureaux and have been delivering and writing courses for many years.

Many of the team members write and edit articles for 'Adviser' magazine and 'Arian' newsletter. Some of the ream also contribute to and update the CPAG Debt Advice Handbook.

Catherine Goundry

Catherine started as a volunteer at Bassetlaw Citizens Advice Bureau in 1996. She soon developed an interest in money advice and in 1998 took up the post of money adviser at West Lindsey bureau. She subsequently worked as Doncaster bureau and then at Lincoln. She also became a money advice trainer for Citizens Advice. She joined Citizens Advice as a Specialist Support Officer in 2005 and is a member of the 'Arian' editorial board.

Chauntelle Wright

Chauntelle has been a money adviser since 1998. She began as a Citizens Advice Bureau volunteer and joined Specialist Support in 2003. She has an honours degree in law and has substantial experience of casework and representation in court. She has designed and delivered training to a variety of organisations, local government officers and magistrates. Chauntelle is the subject editor or 'Adviser' magazine.

Debora Smith

Debora started as a volunteer at Wolverhampton Citizens Advice Bureau in 1994. She quickly developed an interest in money advice and became a paid money adviser at Walsall bureau. Whilst working in bureau she worked under an LSC contract and became an LSC supervisor. Debora joined Citizens Advice Specialist Support in 2005 and is based in the Wolverhampton office.

Guy Skipwith

Guy qualified as a solicitor in 1976 and has been working in money advice since 1984. He has worked in rural and inner city bureaux, was part of Birmingham Settlement's National Money  Advice Training Unit from 1988 to 2000 and joined Citizens Advice Specialist Support in 2001. He is a member of the 'Adviser' editorial board, a regular contributor to the 'Adviser' magazine and the IMA's Quarterly Account and has been writing and training courses for over twenty years. His particular interests are consumer credit and limitation law.

Jane Phipps

Jane has specialised in debt advice for thirty years first in academic research and then as a money adviser. Since 1996 Jane has worked for Citizens Advice as a specialist second-tier debt adviser, and has more than ten years experience of developing, writing and delivering training from introduction to specialist levels. Her particular interest is county courts and representation. She chairs the County Court Issues Group , is a member of the Civil Justice Council and is a member of the 'Arian' newsletter editorial team.

Joe McShane

Joe started as a volunteer in his local Citizens Advice Bureau in 1996 and has since had a variety of jobs in bureaux from being a debt worker (LSC and Core funded) to Advice Services Manager. He has worked in several bureaux including Cardiff, Oxford, York and Swindon. Joe joined Citizens Advice Specialist Support in 2005 and is based in the Cardiff office.

Lesley Groves

Lesley worked for Barclays Bank before joining her local Citizens Advice Bureau as a volunteer where she specialised in debt advice. She became deputy manager before becoming North West Money Advice Development Officer with Citizens Advice in 2003. She became a Specialist Support Officer in 2004 and is based in Cardiff. Lesley is the editor of the 'Arian' newsletter.

Lorraine Charlton

Lorraine has been a money adviser since 1990. She joined Citizens Advice as a Specialist Support Officer in the Money Advice team in 2005. Lorraine makes regular contributions to 'Arian', the Specialist Support newsletter. Lorraine has been involved in developing and delivering the Money Advice Trust's Wiser Adviser training courses on Insolvency and Debt Relief Orders.

Marina Gallagher

Marina worked as a debt advice caseworker in Citizens Advice Bureaux for 11 years before joining Citizens Advice Specialist Support in 2003. She is a member of the 'Adviser' magazine editorial board and writes articles for 'Adviser'. Marina has also been involved in updating the last three editions for the 'Debt Advice Handbook'. She has written and delivered debt training courses for several different organisations and has a particular interest in insolvency.

Peter Madge

Peter has worked for Citizens Advice Specialist Support for the past twenty years. Prior to that he worked as a volunteer and paid money adviser in bureaux. Until 2005 he was editor of 'Adviser'. He is still a regular contributor to 'Adviser' as well as to 'Arian' and 'Quarterly Account'. Peter is one of the authors or CPAG's 'Debt Advice Handbook' and is an Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Money Advisers.

Tim Lett

Tim has worked in the free advice sector since 1980, as a welfare rights officer with a local authority, as an adviser, money advise caseworker and deputy manager in Citizens Advice Bureaux, and for Citizens Advice since 1997 as a Money Advice Development Officer and the Specialist Support Officer. He regularly tutors money advice courses and was a former author of the Quarterly Account Q & A column. Tim is a trustee/director of the Institute of Money Advisers and a member of the Civil Procedures Rule Committee.
