The Hardest Hit day of action - 22 October

Hardest hit day of action, Leeds, 22 OctoberOn 22 October 2011 around 5,000 disabled people, with family, friends and supporters, took to the streets at marches and rallies in 12 locations around the UK. Citizens Advice supported the day, with bureaux taking part and helping out at many of the marches and rallies.

Caerphilly CAB supported the Cardiff Hardest Hit event.

In Newcastle, Tyne and Wear bureau workers volunteered as stewards to do their bit to make the day a success.

In Leeds, Citizens Advice led on organising the day and Selby, Leeds and Kirklees CABs all joined in with the march.

Hardest hit day of action, Bristol, 22 OctoberIn Bristol, the CAB presence was strong, including support from Taunton and Bristol CAB.

The purpose of the day was to make the point that disabled people will be hardest hit by proposed welfare reforms and local service cuts, and that this is not fair. The campaign continues, and people can take part by writing to MPs and contacting local media.

What's next?

The Hardest Hit campaign is ongoing, and we're building on the recent rallies with a follow-up campaign actions. We recently presented a giant Christmas card to the Government signed by thousands of disabled people, those with long-term conditions and their families and friends. To let them know that we are not asking for gifts, but we do want our basic rights protected and the support to enable us to live independently and with dignity.
