Who the course is forThis course is suitable for you if you: - are planning to deliver face to face financial capability training sessions to adults in the community, such as, sessions on how to budget or open a bank account. This could be group or one to one work
- already have a basic understanding of personal finance issues (eg through money advice or other experience)
- would like to improve your skills and confidence in planning, delivering and evaluating adult learning
- would like to meet other workers carrying out financial capability work to pool ideas and develop good practice.
This programme is not for you if you: - need training to increase your knowledge of personal finance topics
- will not be carrying out financial capability work in the near future
- have already completed the Citizens Advice 'Introduction to group training skills' programme.
CAB applicantsThis training is open to all bureau staff and is free. However, priority will be given to you if your bureaux has joined the financial capability forums and have firm plans to deliver financial education. Non-CAB applicantsSome places are available for non-CAB applicants who are active members of their financial capability forum and/or members of TRANSACT. There is usually a £150 charge with no VAT to pay. However, we have funding at the moment to offer you a free place if you are from a non profit making agency. Travel and accommodation expenses Whether you or not you are from a CAB we can also offer financial help of up to £150 (per person) to cover travel and/or accomadation expenses. If you are accepted on to the course we will send you an expense claim form with your joining instructions. Aims of the programmeThis programme will help you to plan, deliver and evaluate effective financial capability sessions to adults. It will develop your understanding of trainer skills and give you a chance to try them out through a series of practical tasks. The programme covers how to: - identify learners’ needs
- write clear, useful learning objectives
- select appropriate learning methods and plan learning activities
- present information clearly
- develop the skills to support adult learners
- evaluate and improve your training.
Programme contentsThe programme includes: - a pre-course training pack - which takes around three hours to complete
- a three-day course
- an optional follow up workshop.
The courseYou will be asked to come to the course with a subject in mind for a learning activity that you want to design and deliver. The course will be run over three days: usually two consecutive days, then a gap of about three weeks to give you time to prepare a learning activity. On the last day you will get a chance to deliver part of the learning activity you have prepared. By the end of the course you will have written the learning objectives and a draft session plan for a financial capability activity. FeedbackYou will be asked to give the materials that you have prepared for your learning activity to your tutor. They will look at these and send you constructive feedback after the course. Follow up workshop for people delivering financial capability sessionsYou will also be asked if you want to attend a further one day workshop after the course. This is aimed at trainers who have started delivering training and would like to: - discuss their experiences with others
- extend their knowledge and skills
- share ideas and good practice.
