Forum meeting

"(It was most useful to have an)
opportunity to share ideas, moving
things forward – to action plan."

"(The meeting has) given me some
impetus to get some financial
capability work started with my
partner organisations."

"Attending the forum has offered
us the chance to work in partnership
with the local credit union and also
to widen our network. Had it not
been for the forum I don't think we
would have got involved as quickly."

Financial skills for life (FSfL) is committed to working with others to help people develop their skills and confidence to avoid financial crisis. We promote and engage with interagency networking and projects at a national, regional and local level.

Based on the model of an already well established financial capability forum in the North West, we established 14 regional financial capability forums in 2007. The forums are led by bureaux or other community partners and meet at least three times each year. County and sub-regional forums have also been established in some areas as well as trainers' forums, which are aimed specifically at practitioners who are delivering, or planning to deliver, financial capability training.

The forums have already attracted participants from more than 1,000 organisations through regular meetings in their area and have channelled more than £1 million of national funding to forum members to help them promote financial capability in their communities. They have also provided members with access to Citizens Advice training materials and programmes.

The Money Advice Service is supporting the forums throughout England and Wales over two years to March 2012.
