Our work with bureaux

Bureaux work with a wide range of local partner agencies to reach learners and deliver programmes. They work at a community level with agencies from the health, housing, social, community, training and regeneration sectors. They carry out financial skills training in groups or though one-to-one sessions. Many bureaux also extend the reach of their work by training front-line staff from other agencies, such as housing associations, so they can better support their clients.

With the encouragement and support of our key partner, Prudential, we have engaged other significant investors and collaborators. We have worked with them to further build our service-wide capacity to deliver financial skills. In the last two years nearly half of bureaux across England and Wales have been involved.
We have helped bureaux set up and deliver successful local programmes by providing:
- advice and information on how to get involved
- a range of training materials to use when working with clients and front-line workers
- free training and e-learning courses to help bureau staff and volunteers become financial skills trainers
- networking opportunities – though events, forums and a bureau projects directory
- toolkits – on topics like working with schools and accessing local authority funding.
We have also increased participation by providing grants to local bureaux and other local partners. These range from small (£150-250) grants to deliver one-off sessions using standard training materials to substantial (£20,000+ pa) long-term project funding.
