Campaigning for change

The stories clients share in CAB gives us a unique insight into the problems faced by people in the UK.

With over two million clients each year it's the kind of evidence that's hard to ignore; it's all too apparent when policies and services cause people issues.

We see it as our responsibility to create a public debate around these issues and speak up. Support our campaigns to change things for the better

Bailiffs

© Brian GurrolaEvery year thousands experience harassment from bailiffs.

For decades we've asked successive governments to take action but so far very little has happened. Meanwhile, we've seen a 38% rise in problems with private bailiffs over the last five years.

We're calling for tighter regulation of the bailiff industry, for creditors to work with people in debt and to make sure people are aware of their rights regarding bailiffs

Scams are crimes, help stop them

Scams are crimes, help stop them

Fake lotteries, prize draws, bogus health cures, phishing – just a few of the scams that catch more than three million people in the UK every year.  People lose hundreds and sometimes thousands of pounds to cunning and ruthless criminals, who cause misery as well as  financial loss.

Citizens Advice and the Trading Standards service have teamed up to raise awareness of this menace, help consumers to protect themselves and fight back against the scammers.

Helping payday lenders play fair

A neon payday loans sign

Four million people are likely to take out a payday loan in the next six months. With this increase in use the Citizens Advice service has seen a ten-fold increase in the proportion of clients receiving casework help with multiple debts which included a payday loan debt in the last four years.

To make sure payday lenders are acting fairly we are asking everyone who has taken out a payday loan to take part in our national survey. Find out whether your lender is sticking to the rules at adviceguide.org.uk.

Cold calling - you're in charge

PPI text message on a mobile phoneHelp tackle unsolicited text and phone calls.

We want to help consumers deal with

  • doorstep sellers (even when they’ve been invited into your home)
  • inappropriate and illegal sales tactics,
  • pestering texts, emails and unexpected phone calls.

Citizens Advice is calling for action to tackle bad practice by claims management companies, including spam texts and high charges.
