As part of its continuing commitment to equality and diversity and the Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Trans (LGBT) community, national charity Citizens Advice is proud to have stalls and be promoting the service at the forth-coming Pride events around the country:

· London, 5 July 2008 (New window) www.pridelondon.org

· Newcastle-upon-Tyne, 12 July 2008, (New window) www.pride-on-tyne.com

· Manchester, 23, 24, 25 August 2008 (New window) www.manchesterpride.com

· Brighton, 2 August 2008 (New window) www.brightonpride.org

David Harker, chief executive of Citizens Advice said:

"Being part of Pride celebrates our diversity within the Citizens Advice service. We want to send the vital message to the LGBT community face to face that we are here for everyone. We hope lots of people will stop by our stall to find out more about our services and volunteering opportunities".

Ali Harris, Programme Manager: Equality and Diversity said:

"Discrimination of any community can have a devastating impact on people's lives, and Citizens Advice is committed to challenging prejudice and discrimination and raise awareness of LGBT issues through out its nationwide network. Citizens Advice Bureaux can help people make their rights a reality, especially for those who have been on the receiving end of unfair treatment or discrimination. The charity also provides advice on issues such as benefits and debt. (New window) www.adviceguide.org.uk also gives up to date information on many issues that affect the LGBT community".

Citizens Advice is one of only four voluntary organisations to appear in this year’s Stonewall Workplace Equality Index of the top 100 gay-friendly employers, coming 24th and the second highest charity on the index. The 'village' CAB in Salford, an advice service run by the LGBT community has also recently produced an influential report on civil partnerships, and currently working on mini-info videos on discrimination for YouTube.
