HRH The Princess Royal Patron of Citizens AdviceThe Citizens Advice service is a key part of the community. Every year there are new problems to tackle. I am always impressed by the way the service takes these problems, and campaigns to get the situation improved for everyone in the community. Well-timed advice can stop a worry turning into a crisis. It can give back control to a situation that could otherwise spiral out of all proportion. The service would not survive without the 20,973 volunteers providing advice and support at the heart of their community. I had the pleasure of meeting some of the dedicated volunteers at the annual conference in September 2003. As Patron of Citizens Advice, my role involves visits to many bureaux. At the heart of the service is voluntary and charitable work that is only possible with the support and funding from different parts of the community - companies, trusts, local and national government. As the service starts its 65th year I hope it will continue to be supported by the community it has been part of for so long. |
Sir Graham Hart Chair of Citizens AdviceI can now look back on five years as Chair of Citizens Advice, five years during which we have grown and developed. In reacting to a changing world, we must of course stand by the long established values of the CAB service. Much of what we have achieved recently serves to reinforce those values; for example, our work to audit the quality of advice reflects our determination to put our clients first and to give a high standard of service. Citizens Advice is above all a membership organisation, existing to lead and serve our member bureaux. Careful research over the years shows that the members are much more satisfied with Citizens Advice than they were five years ago. We can only maintain that achievement by constantly asking ourselves ‘how can the CAB service serve its clients better?’ |
