Citizens Advice Reading (CAR) is a large busy town centre advice service that deals with in excess of 7,500 clients each year. Staffed by over 80 volunteers and 25 part-time paid staff, the quality of the services that are provided are consistently high with CAR currently rated as ‘excellent’ following the last independent audit.

CAR enjoys strong leadership and strategic planning at both trustee and officer levels and over recent years has developed and maintained a number of significant partnerships and outreach services in addition to its generalist advice provision.

An opportunity has now arisen for a further Team Leader to join the current team that supports the generalist advice service. Whilst the post is covered by a generic job description, Team Leaders will have specific responsibilities and the successful applicant for the new post will be expected to focus on direct supervision of volunteer supervisors and advisors and the maintenance of quality standards and audit criteria – including carrying out case checking.

If interested in this role, you will already be a generalist adviser or the equivalent and have a thorough understanding of the main enquiry areas (ideally with particular expertise in debt and welfare benefits advice) and share CAR’s commitment to quality in all aspects of its services. You will be an effective communicator and able to research, interpret and analyse complex information. You will be able to work in a demanding, challenging but highly satisfying environment and also have good IT skills. Ideally you will have experience of supervising, coaching and providing feedback but this is not essential as development can be provided.
