About the financial capability forums

Overview

Between 2007 and 2017 Citizens Advice supported the regional financial capability forums in England and Wales. There were 15 forums building on the successful example of the first forum in the north west.

The forums were led by local Citizens Advice and other community partners and brought together key local and national players from every sector of government and society. Participants supported each other by sharing information and experience and the emphasis in all forums was on involving everyone with an interest in delivering or engaging with financial capability.

The forums attracted participants from more than 1,800 organisations through regular meetings in their area, and channeled more than £1 million of national funding to forum members to help them promote financial capability in their communities. For example, members delivered projects such as Energy Best Deal, and have provided training to more than 150,000 people. Forums also provided members with access to Citizens Advice training materials and programmes.
