Nuisance calls can give fraudsters a “foot in the door”, Citizens Advice warns

Citizens Advice has warned about scammers phoning people out of the blue, as Ofcom today launches new consumer guides for nuisance phone calls. Citizens Advice’s research found that 7 in 10 calls to the consumer service about the Green Deal scheme were about scams with half of coming from cold calls.

A new survey of GP surgeries shows the financial cost people face when appealing ‘fit for work’ decisions, with many hit by fees for medical evidence. The Chief Executive of Citizens Advice says the results highlight the obstacles people face when appealing against Work Capability Assessments (WCA) decisions, which determine an individual’s eligibility for Employment and Support Allowance (ESA).

Broken zero-hours contracts are leaving workers in limbo

Citizens Advice has said there must be clarification to the rules on zero hours contracts to protect employees who are left with no money coming in or open to exploitation at work. The call comes as new figures from the Office of National Statistics reveal that there could be up to 2.7 million people on contracts with no fixed hours of work, with many receiving no work at all.
