Barclays Money Skills ‘champions’

Between 2011 and 2014 we worked with leading youth organisations; the National Youth Agency, UK Youth, Youth Access, Rathbone and Youth Net to deliver this innovative project. The aim was to increase the financial awareness of 16-24 year olds, with particular emphasis on NEET young people, through a programme of peer education.

The project trained over 5,200 young people as ‘champions’ improving their financial knowledge and capability, and equipping them with the skills to share this information with their peer group. Overall the project reached 120,000 young people through this peer education model.

As part of the 'champions' training, local Citizens Advice delivered a two hour advice at hand session, helping young people to identify money problems that may occur, and when and where to get help.

See our final report [ 41 kb] for more information on how the project has benefited young people and the wider learning for the Citizens Advice service.
