Parent's guide to money

Parent's guide to money is produced by the Money Advice Service. It aims to help parents and their families learn about money and become more confident about managing their finances. The guide is handed to expectant parents by their midwife.

In the guide, you will find all sorts of useful resources, leaflets and calculators to help you plan, budget, save, borrow and claim benefits and tax credits.

There is information about:

  • budgeting for the cost of children
  • planning ahead for a new family
  • benefits and tax credits for families
  • employment rights of parents
  • paying for childcare
  • tips about borrowing
  • useful local contacts.

To view the guide, go to: www.moneyadviceservice.org.uk.

You can also try the online Money Advice Service financial health check. The questions take just a few minutes to answer and are completely confidential. At the end you'll have a better understanding of what shape your finances are in.

The health check also gives you a financial action plan and ideas on how to make the most of your money. For more information, go to www.moneyadviceservice.org.uk.
