Price differences

Our research findings show prepay energy customers pay an average of £226 more per year than they would on the cheapest online direct debit deals from the same supplier.

Despite supplier support for our Consumer Demand which aims to make prepay energy fairer and improve the poor service faced by those that pay as you go, we haven’t seen any real change in what consumers pay: in every part of the country, the difference between the price prepay customers pay compared to the best direct debit deals has increased since December 2014.

See our constituency-specific prepayment meter dashboards below. Each dashboard gives you key information on how many households in your constituency pay for their energy through a prepayment meter, the price difference of prepay tariffs compared to other payment methods and the number of tariffs there are to choose from.
