Citizens Advice responds to Ofgem announcement on Market Stabilisation Charge
Responding to Ofgem's latest announcement on the Market Stabilisation Charge, Gillian Cooper, Director of Energy at Citizens Advice, said:
“Proposing to bring back the Market Stabilisation Charge is a warning sign that energy prices are back in dangerous territory, and Ofgem is right to be vigilant.
“When triggered, this rule can limit the short-term savings people can make by switching, but it helps ensure suppliers remain resilient to wild swings in wholesale energy costs. This ultimately protects everyone from the costs of an unstable energy market.
“The government must recognise this for what it is: a warning that prices are rocketing and urgent winter crisis support is essential. At the Budget, we need a clear plan to deliver targeted bill support to those most at risk before they are pushed over the brink."
