Jason's story
“When I went to Citizens Advice I was at breaking point. They were the only ones who helped me.”
Just before his daughter was born, he was laid off unexpectedly from the job he loved. The loss of his job was financially devastating. Instead of looking forward to the birth of their baby, the family felt overwhelmed with worry about how they would afford their rent, food and essential household bills.
At breaking point, Jason contacted Citizens Advice. Since then we’ve provided him with advice on employment, benefits, and energy issues. And we’ve supported him with food bank referrals, fuel vouchers and applying for a grant to help buy a new washing machine.
Things are still very tough, but the support from Citizens Advice has given Jason and his family some breathing space.
If I didn’t have any of that help, we probably wouldn’t even have a house to live in. I can’t thank them enough for what they’ve done for me.
Our advisers are a lifeline, providing expert advice and practical support to people like Jason facing unthinkable hardship. Our teams are working flat out, but we simply can’t keep up with the number of people who urgently need our help.
