Historic star rating data
The Citizens Advice Star Rating has undergone a recent methodology change. You can read about our decisions underlying the revised methodology here. Some graphs on this page only feature one quarter of data. Other graphs have been updated to include the new data alongside previous data. We would caution against making comparison with previous methodologies, particularly in terms of the overall Star Ratings. The underlying logic for some metrics (such as complaints or call waiting times) has not changed.
As the statutory advocate for energy consumers, Citizens Advice publishes a quarterly rating of all energy suppliers with over 25,000 customers. We compare suppliers across three different categories (complaints, contact waiting time and customer commitments). The charts below explore suppliers’ performance on these metrics going back to 2017. You can also click here to navigate the charts in a dashboard format.

This graph shows the highest and lowest ranking scores over time, from Q4 2017 to Q 2025.

This graph shows the Contact Ease Star Rating for current suppliers from Q3 2020 onwards. The contact ease rating is made up of call wait time, and email response time data. From Q4 2025, for suppliers where they have another contact channel making up at least 2.5% of all contacts received, this is included as well (including Webchat, Whatsapp, SMS and In-App messaging). It currently makes up 30% of the overall Star Rating.

This graph shows the average webchat wait time for current suppliers, going back to Q4 2025.
This graph shows the Billing and Metering Star Rating for current suppliers from Q4 2025 onwards. The Billing and Metering Star Rating is made up of Traditional and Smart Meter Billing Accuracy, and Smart Meter Correct Operation Rates. It makes up 25% of the overall Star Rating.
