Citizens Advice welcomes changes to free childcare

6 July 2011

Gillian Guy, Chief Executive at Citizens Advice, said:

“Citizens Advice welcomes today's announcement on changes to free childcare. From our work with families on this issue, we know that by extending the times during which the 15 hours of free childcare can be used, and allowing them to be spread them over two days rather than three, part-time and shift-working parents will be helped. It will also help families out of poverty as many more parents will now be able to make their commutes or take up part-time work.

“The success of the Government’s proposals on universal credit for more cost-effective childcare arrangements will depend on increased funding and support to ensure that working parents can make work pay.”
