About the role

Citizens Advice 1066 is recruiting a reliable Energy Adviser to provide essential support to local residents. This permanent role involves delivering energy advice across Hastings, Rother, and the surrounding areas, contributing to our charity's mission to relieve poverty and promote public health.

Is this the right fit for you?

· Do you have a bit of a "detective" mindset? Can you look past a high bill to find out what’s really going on in a client's life, from hidden leaks to missed benefits?

· Are you a "people person" who actually listens? You’ll be the calm voice on the phone when things get a little hectic.

· Do you want a job that actually matters? You’ll go home knowing you’ve made someone’s life a bit easier (and their home a bit warmer).

The Role: Delivering Personalised Energy Support

The primary function of this role is to provide practical energy advice to local people through both home visits and telephone consultations. The ideal candidate will be organised, focused, and dedicated to client welfare.

Key Responsibilities:

· Conduct home visits to assess the client's living situation and property condition. Provide personalised energy advice and, where appropriate, install small energy efficiency measures.

· Use data gathered on energy consumption, temperature, and humidity to deliver highly personalised energy advice to clients.

· Manage a consistent volume of telephone enquiries, providing clear and practical information with patience and accuracy.

· Explore the wider context of a client's circumstances to identify underlying needs, helping individuals navigate personal barriers or any stigma they may feel about seeking support.

· Prioritise client welfare, including appropriate signposting and making referrals to other support services when required.

· Maintain accurate and professional case records for all engaged clients.

How we support you:

We know that to take care of our community, we need to take care of our team. We don’t expect you to be an expert on day one—we’re here to help you get there.

· Professional Qualification: We will put you through the Level 3 NEA (National Energy Action) training. This is a recognised qualification that will give you the technical knowledge to give advice fluently and truly understand the complex issues our clients face.

· Structured Supervision: You’ll have regular, one-to-one supervision sessions. It’s a safe space to discuss your caseload, troubleshoot tricky "detective" findings, and ensure you feel supported in your role.

· A Collaborative Team: You’ll work closely with our Project Manager and Advice Supervisors, who are always on hand to share their expertise.

· A Realistic Path: Your salary reflects your growth; as you complete your training and build your confidence, your pay will rise to the top of the band (£28,728).

Annual leave: 23 days holiday entitlement (in addition to bank holidays), increasing to 24 days after 3 years service and capped at 25 days after 4 years service. Pro-rata for part-time.

Location: Based at the CA1066 office in St Leonards-on-Sea when not conducting visits or outreach. Flexible home-working is possible after training is completed.
