About the role

The Training & Development Officer recruits, trains and develops our volunteers and paid staff. They also have responsibility to deliver and further develop our “Advice First Aid” training programme.

The Training and Development Officer leads on:

- The organisation’s Training and Development plan

- The recruitment and training of volunteers and paid staff

- The design and delivery of “Advice First Aid” training to external organisations to support capacity building in the community

The Training & Development Officer works collaboratively with the Senior Leadership Team.

Essential Criteria

• An understanding of and commitment to the aims and principles of the Citizens Advice Service.

• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, particularly in an education and development setting.

• Ability to manage volunteers, understand volunteering issues and a commitment to the value of volunteering.

• Ability to contribute to, implement and deliver training modules, combined with understanding of adult learning techniques / theories.

• Ability to supervise others including being able to recruit, develop and motivate volunteers.

• Excellent IT skills in order to support trainees, maintain training records and develop training materials.

• Proven ability to give and receive feedback objectively and sensitively. A willingness to challenge constructively.

• Resilient and emotionally intelligent to be able to deal with difficult situations, including safeguarding concerns.

• An up to date understanding of equity and diversity and its application to providing advice and the supervision and development of staff and volunteers.

• Able to monitor and maintain performance against agreed targets.

• Willingness to travel between and work from a range of locations within the area covered by Citizens Advice Stroud & Cotswold Districts.

Desirable Criteria

• Advice experience within Citizens Advice or an equivalent advice background. A candidate appointed without Citizens Advice experience will be expected to be meeting the training needs of the organisations within 3 months.

In accordance with Citizens Advice national policy the successful candidate may need to be screened by the DBS. However, a criminal record will not necessarily be a bar to your being able to take up the job.
