The Future of the Right to Buy and Right to Acquire

The pressures on our housing market are well documented, with community landlord dwelling numbers estimated to have dropped by 8 per cent since 2000/01 and owner occupier numbers falling since 2006/071. Citizens Advice Cymru believe that action should be taken to protect social housing to ensure that affordable housing is available to those that need it. We support the Welsh Government’s policy approach of proposing legislation in the next government to end the right to buy. This will benefit low income households throughout Wales by protecting existing community landlord housing stock and providing confidence to the sector to enable them to build new stock without concern that it will become private housing stock via right to buy.

Mae’r pwysau ar ein marchnad dai yn hysbys i bawb, gyda thua 8 y cant yn llai o gartrefi landlord cymunedol ers 2000/01 a nifer y perchen-feddianwyr yn gostwng ers 2006/072. Mae Cyngor ar Bopeth Cymru yn credu y dylid cymryd camau i ddiogelu tai cymdeithasol fel bod tai fforddiadwy ar gael i bawb mewn angen. Rydym yn cefnogi polisi Llywodraeth Cymru o gynnig deddfwriaeth yn ystod tymor y llywodraeth nesaf i ddiddymu’r cynllun hawl i brynu. Bydd hyn o fantais i aelwydydd incwm isel ledled Cymru gan y bydd yn diogelu’r stoc tai landlord cymunedol presennol ac yn rhoi hwb i’r sector fynd ati i adeiladu stoc newydd heb boeni y byddai’n dod yn rhan o’r stoc tai preifat drwy’r cynllun hawl i brynu.
