The Welsh Water HelpU scheme – help with paying water bills

If you get help through the Welsh Water HelpU scheme, your water bill will be capped. This means you won't pay over a certain amount for the year.

Check if you can apply for Welsh Water HelpU

You’ll qualify if both:

  • you or someone you live with get certain benefits

  • your household’s annual income is less than a certain amount

Check which benefits let you qualify

You or someone you live with must get one of these benefits:

  • Universal Credit

  • Pension Credit

  • income based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)

  • income related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)

  • Income Support

  • Housing Benefit

  • Council Tax Reduction

  • tax credits

Apply for Welsh Water HelpU

To apply for Welsh Water HelpU you can fill in the application form on their website.

If you need help making your application you can either:

You'll need to supply evidence that you qualify, like a payslip or a copy of your awards notice for a benefit.

When you will start getting help

You'll start getting help when HelpU approves your application.

If your water and sewerage services are provided by different companies, the water company should tell the sewerage company that you're getting help. The sewerage company should then adjust their charges.

You’ll need to reapply every 12 months to stay on the scheme.
