Agreement between Bulb and Octopus

The government announced on the 29th October that it had approved a deal between the special administrators of Bulb and Octopus Energy to acquire Bulb's 1.5 million customers.

As the statutory advocate for energy consumers, Citizens Advice is obliged to consider the impact on customers of deals of this nature. We are concerned we do not have sufficient information to assess the potential impact and hence ensure consumer interests are properly safeguarded.

We have raised these concerns with the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. We also made the High Court, which was required to set an effective date for the deal, aware of our concerns. As this letter was mentioned in open court, this correspondence is provided here for information.
