Citizens Advice Response to DESNZ’s Smart Metering Framework Post 2025 Consultation

Citizens Advice Response to DESNZ’s Smart Metering Framework Post 2025 Consultation 249 KB

The introduction of a post-2025 framework for the smart meter rollout is vital and we welcome the opportunity to respond to this consultation. As the statutory consumer advocate we believe the key areas where this consultation has the potential to benefit consumers are:

  • Creating a framework for smart meter installations that incentivises energy suppliers to fit smart meters for all consumers who want one as soon as possible - particularly the groups identified in the consultation document as currently lagging behind, for example the private rented sector

  • Improving the experience of In Home Displays (IHDs) for consumers and updating IHD specifications to better reflect the modern energy market

  • Ensuring that a post-2025 framework focuses more on consumer outcomes and not simply installation rates, ensuring that smart metering equipment works as consumers expect it to

  • Extending Government oversight of the smart meter rollout
