Chat with an adviser online
For issues about applying for Universal Credit, talk to us on our Help to Claim page.

For issues with your gas and electricity, talk to us on our energy chat page.
If consumer issues like broken or faulty goods, talk to our consumer service.
You can talk about your issue with a trained adviser online. We’ll try to help you solve your problem or make good progress towards it. In some cases, we might need to send you to your local Citizens Advice or a specialist organisation.
Chat is open 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. It's not available on public holidays.
Start a chat
To start a chat, select the round chat button at the bottom right of your screen.
If you use a screen reader, you'll find the 'Start chat' button in your forms list or at the end of this page.
To connect you to the right adviser, we’ll ask you for a few details, including:

It might take a few minutes to connect you to an adviser. They’ll be based in England or Wales. Although they can help you find a way forward with your problem, they might not know about services specific to your local area.
Online privacy
If you're worried about someone seeing what you've been doing online, you can delete your browser history or use 'private browsing' to hide your activity. You can find out more about covering your tracks online from Women's Aid - their advice is for everyone.
If our advisers aren't available
We're a charity and most of our team are volunteers, so it might take us a little longer to reply.
If our chat service is closed, we might offer to help you by email. We'll ask for details about your problem and your contact information.
We’ll reply to you by email within 5 working days. If you haven't heard from us by then, check your junk and spam folders.

Problems with chat
Some ‘ad blocker’ software stops chat working. If you use an ad blocker, make sure to add citizensadvice.org.uk as a trusted site.
