General scams

• The Little Book of Big Scams.  This book, from the Metropolitan Police, is a general guide to many of the scams currently operating in the UK.

• The Little Book of Big Scams - Business Edition.  This version of the Metropolitan Police's The Little Book of Big Scams has been designed specifically to protect small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
• Friends Against Scams, a National Trading Standards Scams Team initiative, aims to protect and prevent people from becoming victims of scams by empowering communities to "take a stand against scams". Visit their website to learn more about the initiative, including scam awareness training. 
• Businesses Against Scams. Set up by the National Trading Standards Scams Team, this site includes a number of resources that companies can share with their employees to educate them on a variety of common business related frauds.

• 30+ Ways to Stop Scams from Money Saving Expert. This guide explains what to look out for, how to protect yourself, and what to do if you're a victim of a scam.
• Take Five is a national awareness campaign led by FFA UK (part of UK Finance),  with a range of partners, that urges people to stop and think if what you’re being told really makes sense. • Visit www.cyberaware.gov.uk for advice on the simple ways the public and small businesses can help protect themselves against cyber crime.
• The National Cyber Security Centre have launched a  suspicious email reporting service. The public can use this to report suspicious emails, which will then be analysed and action taken where needed, such as removing URLs linked to malicious sites.
• Consumer Friend aims to make consumer rights easy to understand for everyone. 

Scams and older people

• Think Jessica Leaflet [ 0.58 mb]. Think Jessica work to protect elderly and vulnerable people from scams which come through the postal system and criminals who contact them by telephone.
• Scamwise: Spotting, avoiding and reporting scams. A new advice guide from Independent Age, a charity for older people. Visit their website to download or order the guide and explore their other resources, including a short explanatory animation, quiz, and other advice.
• Spot the signs of financial abuse. Kent County Council are highlighting the signs of doorstep crime and financial abuse to help prevent vulnerable people from becoming victims. They've created this video illustrating the issue for people to share and help raise awareness of the problem.

Investment and pension scams

• ScamSmart is a communications campaign by the Financial Conduct Authority designed to help prevent investment fraud. The website www.fca.org.uk/scamsmart gives investors tips on how to spot the techniques used by fraudsters and hosts the FCA Warning List.
• The FCA Warning List is an online tool that helps users find out more about the risks associated with an investment and check a list of firms the FCA knows are operating without its authorisation.
• Visit www.pension-scams.com to learn more about pension scams, including how to spot the signs and protect yourself and others.
• Combating Pension Scams: A Code of Good Practice.  Find out more about the refreshed voluntary Code of Good Practice for pensions providers, put together by the Pension Scams Industry Group.

Online scams

Property fraud scams

• Visit www.gov.uk/propertyfraud for HM Land Registry’s advice on how to protect your property from fraud.
• Go to www.gov.uk/property-alert  to sign up to HM Land Registry’s free Property Alert service which can help protect your property from fraud.
