What is Scottish Carer Supplement

Scottish Carer Supplement is an extra payment awarded automatically to carers in receipt of Carer Support Payment. It's a taxable benefit and forms part of your taxable income.

Scottish Carer Supplement has replaced Carer’s Allowance Supplement.

How to get Scottish Carer Supplement

If you get Carer Support Payment, you’ll also get Scottish Carer Supplement.

You do not need to apply for Scottish Carer Supplement. You will be paid automatically. Social Security Scotland will send you a letter telling you when you'll get Scottish Carer Supplement.

How much is Scottish Carer Supplement

Scottish Carer supplement is £11.29 per week.

You’ll be paid Scottish Carer Supplement at the same time as your Carer Support Payment.

How Scottish Carer Supplement affects other benefits

Scottish Carer Supplement is ignored when working out the amount of any other benefits you get. It's also ignored when working out the amount of your Council Tax Reduction.

Some benefits are affected by the amount of your savings. If you already have some savings, getting a backdated payment of Scottish Carer Supplement might affect the amount of these benefits.

If you’re not paid Scottish Carer Supplement

If you get a letter saying that you'll get Scottish Carer Supplement, but the payment is not made, contact Social Security Scotland using the contact details on the letter.

If you think you should get Scottish Carer Supplement but do not get a letter, contact Social Security Scotland.

Keep a record of when you contact them, for example details of when you phoned and who you spoke to, or a copy of the letter you sent. It's normally better to contact them in writing, so there’s a record of what you said.

If you’re waiting on a Carer’s Allowance Supplement payment

Scottish Carer Supplement has replaced Carer’s Allowance Supplement. If you were eligible for Carer's Allowance Supplement on the October 2025 qualifying date but you’ve not been paid yet, you should get the payment in June 2026.
