Being able to communicate via a telephone and increasingly through online methods has become essential for everyday life, and for wider social and economic participation.

Similarly financial services, such as bank accounts and affordable credit are vital in their own right and as a crucial gateway to other services. It is also in the wider interests of society that everyone has easy and affordable access to these services.
